Pierre Bourdieu, 1st Honoris Causa Professor at HEC Paris #47

Professor at the Collège de France, the Chair-holder in Sociology, Pierre Bourdieu, was the first person ever to receive the title of Honoris Causa Professor at HEC, following a conference given on the 27 November 1995, on the topic: “Social Sciences and Democracy.” Awarded by the new Dean of the School, Bernard Ramanantsoa, this distinction was a rather audacious one, given that general opinion on the researcher and engaged intellectual, Pierre Bourdieu, was rather divided. Ten years after his death, the debate is finally over. His works, which stretch as far as literature, philosophy and history, have become classics and Pierre Bourdieu is now considered one of the most influential researchers of social science in the world.

HEC Paris celebrates its 130 years in 130 days

To celebrate its 130 years, starting from 12 December HEC Paris is launching a dedicated website that will publish 130 posts tracing back through the greatest moments of its history; a history marked by a taste for audacity.

“130 years of inspiration,” such is the guiding thread that we suggest you follow. With great pedagogical innovations, portraits of alumni who went on to follow rather unique paths, campus life, faculty and other unusual anecdotes, day after day you can take a look at the development not simply of an institution, but also of a state of mind that allowed generations of students to learn to dare, just as the school’s slogan today reminds us: the more you know, the more you dare. This approach is taken not only in homage of all the people who contributed to the construction of both HEC’s history and its success, but also to invite the public to see what lies behind the walls of our institution.

Each day, a photo or video accompanied by a brief commentary will be published on the website www.hec.fr/130ans as well as on iPhone application. Following the same idea, sharing on social networks in and around the “HEC community” will lie at the heart of this project.

Each morning, you can turn on your computers and smart phones to see a snapshot of life at HEC!
