CEMS: Europe goes global #50

On 2nd December 1988, as the European Common Market was beginning to take shape, HEC Paris, Bocconi University, ESADE and the University of Cologne, all decided to create a unique European joint degree in management education. CEMS, the “Community of European Management Schools”- which ambitioned to contribute to the European construction, was born. One of its founders, Jean-Paul Larçon, then Dean of the HEC Grande Ecole programme, and today Senior Associate Dean for International Development, underlines the rather avant-garde dimension to this project: “Few people actually believed in the project at the time, except Bernard Castaing who was CEO of  Procter & Gamble France company. He said that it was the Airbus of management education.” In 2012, CEMS is a worldwide alliance - CEMS Global Alliance- with 26 top international business schools, more than 70 companies and 3 NGOs linked by an exclusive partnership.

HEC Paris celebrates its 130 years in 130 days

To celebrate its 130 years, starting from 12 December HEC Paris is launching a dedicated website that will publish 130 posts tracing back through the greatest moments of its history; a history marked by a taste for audacity.

“130 years of inspiration,” such is the guiding thread that we suggest you follow. With great pedagogical innovations, portraits of alumni who went on to follow rather unique paths, campus life, faculty and other unusual anecdotes, day after day you can take a look at the development not simply of an institution, but also of a state of mind that allowed generations of students to learn to dare, just as the school’s slogan today reminds us: the more you know, the more you dare. This approach is taken not only in homage of all the people who contributed to the construction of both HEC’s history and its success, but also to invite the public to see what lies behind the walls of our institution.

Each day, a photo or video accompanied by a brief commentary will be published on the website www.hec.fr/130ans as well as on iPhone application. Following the same idea, sharing on social networks in and around the “HEC community” will lie at the heart of this project.

Each morning, you can turn on your computers and smart phones to see a snapshot of life at HEC!
