ASSISTANT OR ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR OF LAW

The Law & Tax Department of HEC Paris (France) invites applications for two (2) tenure-track (or tenured) positions at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate or Full Professor, depending on qualifications and experience, to begin on 1st September 2018 in the following fields:

1. Corporate law and related fields

2. International taxation and related fields

About HEC Law & Tax Department

HEC Law & Tax Department is a community of 10 faculty members and dozens of guest lecturers that interacts with more than 2,000 students every year. It offers two programmes (the Master in Strategy & Law and the LLM in Law & International Management) and provides courses across virtually all HEC programmes: from oneyear specialized masters, the CEMS programme to the MBA and Executive Education. It relies on the support of 31 law firms and 4 CAC-40 corporations (AXA, BNP Paribas, Société Générale and L’Oréal) who attend the annual Legal Career Forum and benefits from partnerships with New York University School of Law and Georgetown Law Center. The HEC Law Faculty edits the European Journal of Risk Regulation with Cambridge University Press. Their major research areas are: transnational and European Union law, science, law & technology, corporate and tax law. HEC faculty regularly engage in public debates by authoring op-eds and other media appearances as well as convene international workshops.

Job Description


Successful candidates will become part of the Research Faculty of HEC Paris and will be teaching to Grande École and Specialized Masters students, depending on their field of interest.During their first three years, tenure-track professors benefit from a reduced number of teaching hours, simplified access to research funds and an exemption from administrative duties. HEC Paris faculty receive excellent financial support for research, including grants from HEC Foundation.The remuneration and benefits package is competitive by international standards and will be commensurate with experience and profile. While HEC Paris is a bilingual school (English/French), the ability to teach in French is not mandatory. The work shall be mainly performed at HEC Paris campus in Jouy-en-Josas.HEC Paris is committed to equal opportunities. Candidate Profile

Candidates must fulfill the following criteria:

1. Completion of a PhD degree (or JSD equivalent)

2. A recent record of publications in leading international journals

3. A solid experience in teaching supported by excellent students’ evaluations

4. Fluency to work in a multicultural environment

5. Familiarity with empirical legal research methods as well as working ability in French a plus

1. A cover letter and, possibly, a 60 second video introducing the candidate

2. Resume

3. An electronic copy of three (3) research papers, published or accepted

4. A statement containing: (i) the candidate’s research agenda, by possibly indicating how she/he intends to further develop the relevant academic discipline; (ii) his/her teaching philosophy, experience and preferred methodologies; (iii) a short description of the academic community/ies she/he belongs to and the experience gained in presenting her/his work at international conferences, possibly backed up by online videos

5. A record of teaching evaluations and courses previously taught

6. Two (2) reference letters

The interviews shall take place after shortlisting.
