In the last few years, the spread of Internet access in China has added to the remarkable growth of social media, but also of all online means of communication, such as blogs, microblogs and forums. The country has now over one hundred social media Websites, including important local ones. The Chinese Communist Party has adapted well to these new media devices: besides "the Great Firewall of China", it encourages a much more proactive and subtle type of censorship. Today, the Chinese Internet is flourishing under the watchful eye of the government, and the Web has become an integral part of Chinese lifestyle.
